“Hire great people that love what they do, and be honest.”
Matthew Kaseeska on the rollout of JACK, the guiding principle for his business, and the advantages of having a bee hive.
Name: Matthew “Scotch” Kaseeska
Company Name: Net Works Consulting Resources
Number of Years in Business: 19
What inspired you to start your current business?
My father owned KASE Construction and I always liked the idea of creating your own path. I had a chance in 1997 to start my consulting firm, and it was based on the relationship with the client—not the billable. At that time, it was a feeding frenzy and there were some unethical practices going on that I was not a fan of.
What problems are you solving through your business?
Many businesses struggle with keeping their systems up, secure, and maintained properly. Our systems and process are designed to plug into the existing infrastructure and deliver results to improve these critical aspects of the network immediately. Whether the client has an IT staff or outsources it, we bring our expertise and work with the owners or key personnel to resolve the challenges that keep them from focusing on what makes them money. We also offer CIO or CTO for hire services to help growing companies make the right decisions, but that don’t have the revenue to hire a full time CIO or CTO.
What do you believe is the key ingredient to your business’s success?
Our key ingredient is creativity in approaching our clients challenges. Not every company is the same. They all have different priorities. We bring the best of breed, delivered by seasoned veterans that understand the meaning of “adjust and overcome.”
How do you keep your business from getting stagnant?
If you don’t constantly evolve, you are dead in our industry. We are fanatical about creating and finding new solutions that help our clients and help us do our jobs more efficiently. For instance, we created this agent called JACK that lowers support tickets by over 30 percent! No one in our industry is doing this and it gives us a solid advantage over our competition. You can learn more at www.ineedjack.com if you want to check it out.
What area of your business are you hoping to grow and improve?
We are currently focused on the incoming marketing for NWCR. This has been a great learning experience for us and our efforts seem to be paying off. If there are any EO-ers out there that have perfected this model for the service industry, I would love to connect with them.
What aspect of your company are you most excited about?
We are going to be launching a Kickstarter for the JACK agent in six to eight weeks and I can’t wait to see how the industry responds. We currently have 2,000 agents deployed in the business market, but we are looking to work in conjunction with more existing internal IT teams that need help and don’t have the budget for a new team member. Our goal is 10,000 units.
What is one practice that has been key to your success and why?
Meditation and centering myself before I engage at the office. About two years ago, I really started to meditate everyday. That feeling of grounding and peace carries me through the roughest of days. It also helps me gain a perspective of the other people in my day, which, in turn helps me understand and negotiate situations better. Before I did this, I felt like I was always running and chasing “things or issues.” There is a great app for the people that don’t think they can meditate or don’t know how to start—Head Space.
In a few sentences, please summarize your business philosophy.
Our philosophy is simple: Hire great people that love what they do, and be honest.
What inspires you outside of work?
Learning new things inspires me. I just got into bees this year, so have my first bee hive. Talk about hard workers! I did it mainly for the alarming bee hive collapse issues, but getting some fresh honey doesn’t hurt either.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Knowing that there is nothing more important than my relationship with my family. Measuring success by how I feel and the people that surround me—not what stuff I have.
What else do you hope to accomplish either personally or professionally in the next five years?
I want to have a national presence with the JACK agent and get the revenues to double digits. Watch my kids continue to be successful and prosper. Exit my business, NWCR and enjoy some time traveling the world.
How has EO contributed to your business’s growth and success?
I have avoided many mistakes and learned so many great strategies in EO. I owe so much to this organization and I tell any entrepreneur that is not in EO that it was the best move I’ve made in business in the past 19 years. I love the way we are all willing to help each other succeed and get excited about growing and creating.
